Clarence Burke Jr., the singer of The Five Stairsteps, passed away on Sunday, 26th of May 2013 at the age of 64. He passed away a day after his birthday in Marietta, Georgia.
Clarence Burke Jr. is the oldest of The First Family of Soul. He sung and played the guitar in the band, acted as a producer, choreographer and song-writer. He was a man of many talent. Proved by writing the first hit single of The Five Stairsteps, "You Waited Too Long" which rocketed the R&B chart even before he was 17 years old.
The Five Stairsteps was formed in 1965 and consisted of Burke and his three brothers and one sister. Their biggest hit single "Ooh Child" was named number 402 of the 500 greatest song of all time by Rolling Stone Magazine.
