Lady Gaga - Aura

Following the fame of Lady Gaga's first hit single, Applause, recently Lady Gaga released a lyric video for Aura.

Aura is her second hit single from the newest album, ArtPop. It was written in 2012 by Lady Gaga under a working title, Burqa. Aura was produced by the famous, Zedd and Infected Mushroom. So you can expect the electronic sounds and dance breaks coming in the song.

The lyric video of Aura is combined with the movie, Machete Kills. I really don't want to talk about the movie but to be honest (at first I thought it was a joke). Apparently, Machete Kills is a real movie but we can set that aside.

I'm going to be blatantly honest here. The first time I heard Aura while watching the lyric video, all I can think of is: "What?!"

Aura is a good song, legit. However, to fully get the gist of the song, you have to listen to it more than once (especially if you listen for the first time in the lyric video). In the lyric video Aura is cleverly blend with clips and sounds from Machete Kills. Then again, I believe it will sound a lot better when you listen to only the song and not people screaming "MACHETEEE!!!"

I think 'speak-singing' is becoming more popular in pop scene in 2013 (you know, when you speak on one pitch and change the pitch by a semitone or one tone, as if you're singing but you are not). Aura has some parts that are speak-sang. The song overall is very catchy. The beat is great, the electronic sound is not as generic as other pop songs and sounds very Zedd-like. It is a very good club song to dance to and a good club song to sing along to.

Above all, Aura has a great message behind the lyrics. The Mother Monster is encouraging us to look beyond the outside by saying your aura is more important. Also, that women can make her own choice and nobody can patronise women because they are important behind all the covers.

Four gold stars to Lady Gaga!

Britney Spears - Work B*tch

The Queen of 90s pop is trying to take over the pop chart again with her new hit single, Work Bitch.

The single was released on September 16, 2013 and the music video came out earlier this month. Work Bitch is Britney Spears' second single in 2013. And, it has topped the Billboard Dance/Electronic chart on number 4.

Britney Spears' music has changed compared to her early years in the 90s, from bubblegum and ballad pop to dance and electronic music in the 2000s.

Work Bitch especially sounds more house-pop and electropop like compared to her previous songs. This song is really appropriate for clubbing with its appropriate dance break similar to other clubbing songs nowadays.

Sadly, Britney did not really sing and let her fans listen to her iconic pop vocals. You can only hear her sings chorus and bridge with very limited range and sounded like auto tuned. Other than that, you can only hear her rapping- well, I don't really consider it rapping because she just 'sings' the chorus like a spoken word (like a recitative but not quite).

The lyrics to Work B*tch can be seen as very inspirational. Basically, Britney is preaching that in order to have a glamorous life, you have to work, bitch. Which is very true, of course. However, check out this lyrics:

You wanna hot body, you want a Bugatti
You want a Maseratti, you better work bitch
You want a Lamborghini, sippin' martinis
Look hot in a bikini, you better work bitch
You wanna live fancy, live in a big mansion
Party in France, you better work bitch

I'm not even going to argue about right or wrong because this is so legit true. And somewhat, she is quite a living testament of this lyrics too. Remember when she slips off and had her life messed up? She get through that because she work, bitch. Look at her being so hot dancing on the video of Work Bitch, she earned it because newsflash sister, it ain't came overnight.

Rumours are some people have been arguing that the lyrics are way to materialistic and it seems like the only reason for people to work is to earn all these material things. Also, in the music video, Britney Spears is seen to have all these women in leash and she keeps whipping them. Some of music critics and her fans were quite uneasy watching it because it portrays women as slaves or dogs (even though bitch is literally a female dog).

All aside, Work Bitch is a good clubbing song that you can dance to with a great beat to be played in a club. However, if you think you will hear her properly sings, this song might not be for you.
